Finding Nemo[]
- "This miracle of cutting-edge aquarium technology ensures that the tank will never be scummy again! It laser-scans the water every five minutes, sucks away slime, and purifies salt water. Bloat is jealous of the scum-sucking device, and it also ruins Gill's escape plan. But the upside is better quality water and a longer life for everyone, if they stay..."
- —Pixarpedia
The AquaScum is designed to automatically scan the tank environment for any filth to remove using a laser beam, and then speaks the temperature of water, and pH balance. The device makes it so Dr. Sherman doesn’t have to clean the tank manually. He initially purchases the AquaScum after Nemo successfully jams the filter fan, causing the tank to become filthy. By installing the device, he unknowingly stops the fish from escaping the office. This angers all the fish in the tank, especially Gurgle, who furiously curses the device.
At the end of the film, the device stops working as the tank gang manage to successfully sabotage the AquaScum, even though it had a lifetime guarantee. Dr. Sherman now has to clean the tank himself by taking the fish out and putting them into individual bags. The fish manage to escape the office when he wasn’t looking, leaving him with no idea of where they went.
Trivia[]
- There is an Easter egg on Disc 2 on the DVD showing a commercial for this filter.
- In the English-language version of Finding Nemo, the AquaScum 2003 measures the tank's temperature in US standard, a.k.a. Fahrenheit, even though Australia uses metric, a.k.a. Celsius.
