It was released on both CD and digital download on June 14, 2011. It is the fourth Pixar film to be scored by Michael Giacchino after The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Up. It also marks the first time that Giacchino has worked with John Lasseter as a director, as Lasseter had been executive producer on Giacchino's previous three Pixar films and that Lasseter hasn't worked with Randy Newman.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first Pixar film scored by Michael Giacchino that does not have a soundtrack titled with a number, a noun, and the word "dash".
    • This is also the only Pixar film scored by Giacchino without a punny title for the soundtrack that plays during the end credits.
  • This is the only film in the Cars franchise that is not scored by Randy Newman. As well as being the only Pixar film directed by John Lasseter to not be scored by Newman.
    • This also marks the first time that Michael Giacchino had scored something in a franchise that was previously done by Newman, and it would be the only time he did so until Lightyear in 2022.
