Combat Ship

Tony Trihull is a minor character in Cars 2.

Cars 2[]

Tony is first seen in the beginning of the film, confronting Crabby, who has Finn McMissile aboard him, and telling him to go away. Crabby refuses, but Tony threatens to shoot at him, which forces Crabby to leave. Without Tony knowing, Finn hitches a ride on him and they both arrive at a huge oil platform. Sometime later, Tony, now with Acer aboard, chases Finn, along with another combat ship that has Grem aboard, out of the oil platform and in the middle of the ocean, before firing a torpedo at him and, unbeknownst to the Lemons, missing. He makes a very brief appearance in Tokyo, docked next to the Lemons' other combat ship, near a warehouse where Rod "Torque" Redline was being held captive by the Lemons. He is later seen towards the end of the movie in London, when Professor Z is trying to escape, yelling for the Professor to hurry and get aboard him. Finn manages to use his grappling hooks on the Professor, forcing Tony to use a giant magnet in order to pull the Professor to him. Finn then deploys multiple magnetic explosives from his axles, which cling onto Tony's magnet, resulting in a huge explosion that ends up killing him.

Weaponry and Gadgets[]

Magnet: Attached to a cable, this magnet helps Tony attract any metallic object.
Independent shooter: Located at Tony's sides, these guns are controlled independently by a car in the cabin.
Missile Launcher: Located at Tony's front, these missiles are for standard situations. It comes with a laser guidance system.
Torpedo Launcher: Located at Tony's sides, these torpedoes are more deadly and are used at desperate times.

Trivia[]

Tony is modeled after the USS Independence (LCS-2), a trimaran Littoral Combat Ship in service with the U.S. Navy. It is reflected in his hull number (02) and last name "Tri-Hull".
The explosion that caused Tony to die was also big enough to kill both Finn McMissile and Professor Z, who were near him; however, in the following scenes, they are shown to be completely unharmed.
Tony Trihull somewhat resembles a shark in appearance, with his gray paint job, pointy nose, gill-shaped side vents, and pointy teeth.
His main weapon, instead of being a Bofors 57mm Naval Gun, is replaced with a missile launcher that seems to resemble the RIM-116 RAM (Short for Rolling-Airframe-Missile).
