Electromagnetic Pulse Emitter

The Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Emitter was a weapon disguised as a camera used by the Lemons to sabotage the World Grand Prix and discredit its use of Allinol in Cars 2.

While on a large oil field owned by the Lemons, Agent Leland Turbo discovered the device and passed his findings to Agent Finn McMissile before being captured and killed by the Lemons. McMissile went to the oil field, where he saw the camera from a distance and snapped photos for analysis.

The camera, which Professor Zündapp affirmed to be an Electromagnetic Pulse Emitter, was demonstrated on Rod Redline when he was fueled with Allinol and interrogated by the Lemons. While questioning Redline to whom he had passed along sensitive information, the Lemons raised a lever beneath the camera to 50% power—at which Zündapp explained that Allinol was heating to a boil, dramatically expanding, causing the engine block to crack under stress, and forcing oil into the combustion chamber—then to 75% power. After deducing that information had been passed to Tow Mater, Zündapp raised the camera's lever to 100% power, resulting in Redline's violent explosion.

During the first leg of the World Grand Prix in Tokyo, Lemon lieutenants Grem and Acer used the camera at 75% power to explode the engine of WGP racer Miguel Camino before spotting Mater in Lightning McQueen's pit. The camera was next used to explode the engines of WGP racers Rip Clutchgoneski and Max Schnell.

Grem and Acer used the camera during the second leg of the WGP in Porto CorsaItaly, to explode the engines of WGP racers Carla Veloso and Nigel Gearsley, causing them both to spin out. Agent Holley Shiftwell, from replaying the crash, detected a strong electromagnetic pulse and tracked it to the camera she found to be the same one McMissile had seen at the oil field earlier. After McMissile was captured in his attempt to stop Grem and Acer from damaging any more racers, the two lieutenants continued their use of the camera to explode the engine of another WGP racer Shu Todoroki's engine, leading to a pileup involving Todoroki and four other WGP racers (Jeff Gorvette and Lewis Hamilton both managed to stop in time, narrowly avoiding the pileup).

During the third and final leg of the WGP in London, Grem and Acer, from inside Big Bentley, focused the camera on Lightning McQueen, who had stated that he would be using Allinol in a TV interview following the race in Italy. They raised the camera's lever to 100% power, but nothing happened. Unknown to the Lemons, McQueen had switched from Allinol to Fillmore's organic biofuel prior to the race. After discussing the situation with Zündapp, the lieutenants switched to the backup plan, which involved a bomb that was planted in Mater's air filter. The weaponized camera presumably fell into disuse following the arrests of the Lemons and their boss, Miles Axlerod.
