The Pupils are minor characters in Monsters, Inc. They are trainee Scarers for Monsters, Inc.

"The current crop of trainee Scarers at Monsters, Inc. has a lot to learn. This sorry bunch is more frightened than frightening. It's hard to know what makes them jump more—children or harsh words from their bosses!"[1]
While being asked by Ms. Flint what Bile's big mistake was, the green pupil coughs. Ms. Flint shows them that the mistake Bile made was leaving the door open. Then, Mr. Waternoose tells Flint, Bile and the pupils that a human child could walk right into the factory and the monster world. The yellow pupil panics and leaps into the green pupil's lap, not wanting to go in a kid's room.
