Plot
As described by The New York Times:

Development
In mid-December 2010 veteran Disney and Pixar animator Floyd Norman tweeted twice on Twitter about the short film saying "Saw the Pixar "Hawaii" short. Cute." and "Ken and Barbie want to go to Hawaii. I don’t know what it’s gonna be attached to. Fun stuff, however."[3][4]
In early February 2011 Tom Hanks recorded new dialogue for Woody as seen in his recent tweet on Twitter: "3 directors boss "Woody" around for Toy Story shorts. Come on, guys!", which means he was recording for more than one short film. Hanks did not confirm what exactly he was recording for but he did say shorts in his tweet which could possibly mean dialogue for Hawaiian Vacation and/or other new short films.[2]

Trivia
- Tom Hanks' tweet, followed by a link to the first image seen above, suggests that Angus MacLane, Bobby Podesta, and Mark Walsh will direct one or more of the recently confirmed short films in the Toy Story short film series. Each Pixarian mentioned is a proven leader - one director and two supervising animators, respectively.
- Hawaiian Vacation has been made due to the very big success of Toy Story 3 and constant questions from fans of a Toy Story 4.
- Hawaiian Vacation is the first Pixar short based on one of their films to be released theatrically with their latest film rather than made for a DVD or Blu-ray release.
