Both the driver and Joe were killed in the accident, but another passenger, Eric Frierson, in the back seat managed to survive by crawling out the sun roof. Ranft left behind his wife, [[Sue Barry]], and two children, [[Jordan Ranft|Jordan]], and [[Sofia Ranft]] and a story legacy at PIXAR. |

Joe Ranft provided the voices of Lenny the binoculars in Toy Story, Heimlich the caterpillar in A Bug's Life, Wheezy the penguin in Toy Story 2, Jacques the shrimp in Finding Nemo, and Red the fire truck and Peterbilt in Cars.
