- The series marks the return of Celia Mae, 20 years after the release of Monsters, Inc. In addition, Jennifer Tilly reprises her role.
- Needleman and Smitty return in the series. However, due to the death of Daniel Gerson in 2016, Stephen Stanton took over the roles.
- It has been confirmed that Boo will not be appearing in the series since it is set before the epilogue of the original movie. However, she has been mentioned in the episodes "The Damaged Room" and "It's Laughter They're After".[5]
- The series won't have Randall returning because he got banished from the monster world to the human world, which would make it harder for his return.[citation needed]
- Bad Hair Day is the only episode where Sulley and Mike are absent from, if not counting Mike's appearance in the Mike's Comedy Class segment.
