Soul is Pixar's twenty-third feature film, and is directed by Pete Docter and produced by Dana Murray.[2] It was first announced on June 19, 2019. It was originally supposed to be released on June 19, 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was delayed to November 20, 2020, [3] and was released on December 25, 2020 on Disney+[4].
The film was also released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on March 23rd, 2021. The digital and physical releases included never-before-seen deleted scenes and commentary by directors Pete Docter, Kemp Powers, and producer Dana Murray.[5] Soul won two Oscars - for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score.[6]
Synopsis[]
Joe Gardner is a middle school teacher in New York City with a love for jazz music. After a successful gig at the Half Note Club, he suddenly gets into an accident that separates his soul from his body and he is transported to the You Seminar, a center in which souls develop and gain passions before being transported to a newborn child. Joe, confused for another soul counselor, must enlist help from the other souls-in-training, including 22, a soul who has spent eons in the You Seminar, while trying to get back to New York in his body before it dies.
