Talk: Carsoli

Name of the village

A long time ago the official bios of Uncle Topolino and Mama Topolino went out, and both stated they lived in a small town called "Santa Ruotina". Official bios being official material, this page was created with that name.

But recently, surfing on the blog Pixar Post I learned that in the Cars 2 director's commentary, John Lasseter actually says that because Michael Giacchino has ancestry from Casoli, the little Italian town is called Carsoli ! (and this was actually already written on here this page!)

This is really strange because it contradicts information coming from a perfectly official source. But what is stranger is that I realized in the Cars 2 production notes , the Topolinos' bios are written, and they are exactly the same as the ones published before the film's release, except their hometown is called... Carsoli.

So what do you think ? Perhaps the director's word should be the ultimate source and should take precedence, and the page be renamed ? Gray Catbird (talk) 02:36, July 29, 2013 (UTC)

It is definitively very instructive to search in books on Amazon... Now I see that the DK Cars 2 Essential Guide also calls Uncle Topolino's town Carsoli. Also, this sheds new light on the "Carsoli" mentioned in Sal Machiani's official description, which I had no idea what it was referring to. I think the evidence is compelling. It really seems bios of the Topolinos released before the film are the only place that uses "Santa Ruotina". After all, since Cars 2 had a very short production, with many things done at the last minute, it is conceivable some things were uncertain even five months before release. It seems though the Cars 2 production team doesn't know there is already a town in Italy called Carsoli...

So I decided to rename the page, but will keep Santa Ruotina, since it was mentioned in official material. And if ever you wonder why I spend so much time writing this monologue, it's just to give more explanations on why I did this than just a few reference links.--Gray Catbird (talk) 02:30, August 3, 2013 (UTC)
