Is this his official name?

can we come to some closure on whether this is really this character's name? It looks like there is a diecast for the character, but from our previous discussion, perhaps this character has had other names? --Jeff (talk) 23:51, April 2, 2012 (UTC)

It's possible that the purple car may not be J. Curby Gremlin's diecast due to the many differences between them, if that is the case then this purple Gremlin may indeed be called Russ Gremlin. If I'm honest, I'm not sure if it is J. Curby Gremlin, it may well be. I have ordered it off Amazon so when it arrives I will check the packaging, it should have the name printed on it somewhere & then I'll know for sure. If it doesn't, well I guess we'll likely know in the foreseeable.DJ Morris456 08:59, April 3, 2012 (UTC)

That one on Amazon is international packaging, so it will likely not say any name on it, as usual. Russ Gremlin may very well be the name of the character in foreign adaptations of the film, or it may indeed be a completely separate character. For now, the only announced purple Gremlin to be released in the US is J. Curby Gremlin, but it is also entirely possible that may have changed as well. As someone said, this purple Gremlin's marking do not match J. Curby's marking from the film exactly, so we'll have to wait and see for the US release to see what the packaging says. For now, we should stick with the character that was originally named for this vehicle, J. Curby Gremlin, until we have proof otherwise. - RaptorWiki (Ryan) 09:16, April 3, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for clearing things up ! I was getting very confused... So I guess for now we shouldn't have the Russ Gremlin page ? Gray Catbird 13:52, April 3, 2012 (UTC)
I will delete the page, then if we get official proof that is the name of this character we can un-delete it. One question I have, where did the name "Russ Gremlin" even come from? He's not in the movie, if it's an international packaging it won't have a name, so where the heck does it come from? Just curious. . . --Jeff (talk) 14:29, April 3, 2012 (UTC)
No idea. I only see this from two UK sellers, one on Amazon and one on eBay (which may in fact be the same person using two different business names when it comes down to it). But I never saw anything from Disney/Pixar calling anyone Russ Gremlin....yet. - RaptorWiki (Ryan) 16:57, April 3, 2012 (UTC)

Still unsure who the Purple Gremlin diecast is supposed to be, but at least we can be sure that it's not J. Curby Gremlin, as his true diecast has surfaced in Hong Kong apparently (may just be the prototype, but at least it's clearly not a custom painted version of Grem or any other previous Gremlin diecast, plus the details are 100% accurate to the J. Curby Gremlin in the film) DJ Morris456 09:42, May 9, 2012 (UTC)

New evidence for the name Russ Gremlin : as reported by the Cars collector websites, the Australian Mattel website has some new die-casts, and notably, names the purple gremlin "Russ Gremlin". http://www.disney.com.au/mattelcars/?int_cmp=adsales:mattel:cars:right:1#/products/vehicles/diecastassortment/29 --Gray Catbird 01:11, May 10, 2012 (UTC)
Interesting. Let's see how it is released here in the US. - RaptorWiki (Ryan) 09:22, May 10, 2012 (UTC)
On the website, it says he's "Russ Gremlin." However, in this video, it shows that he's "Don Crumlin." Crumlin seems to be either a mispelling of Gremlin, or another family with the same models and different last names. Should this page be named "Don Grumlin" or "Russ Gremlin." I think the other could be a redirect page. - Lukwisnie, 2:27 PM, May 15, 2012 (UTC)
That's strange. Dom Crumlin is the name under which he was on an European Cars 2 die-cast poster. I thought it could not be his name, since all gremlins in the Lemons group have "Gremlin" for last name. Of course they may be exceptions... This relaunches the mystery of his final name. Me, I have no idea which one is right.--Gray Catbird 20:38, May 15, 2012 (UTC)
I think the die-cast release will show it to be Don Crumlin, but let's wait and see. - RaptorWiki (Ryan) 09:01, May 16, 2012 (UTC)
Cars 2's page on Mattel.com has been updated; they list the car as Dom Crumlin. So I guess this definitive ? Russ Gremlin was the prototype name, and Dom Crumlin is the final name ?--Gray Catbird 17:57, June 3, 2012 (UTC)
I think for now that's a safe bet. If not, we can always change it back. - RaptorWiki (Ryan) 01:11, June 4, 2012 (UTC)

I think that this character in reality is J. Curby Gremlin. It isn't the first "strange name" for a character. Example, in his first diecast model, Celine Dephare was called "Chevron". Then I think that it's just J. Curby Gremlin.

Cars4ever 21:04, June 16, 2012 (UTC)

It now appears improbable this character is J. Curby Gremlin, as a prototype of a Gremlin with color schemes matching those of J. Curby Gremlin has surfaced. So this Don Crumlin die-cast cannot be J. Curby Gremlin. I suspect the "strange name" is an allusion to something - but I haven't found yet. It's true some characters changed names, like Fred Fisbowski who became Fred Pacer. But for this one I don't think we'll see any further changes, although I'm unfamiliar with the complex workings of die-cast release. But for now, the official name is clearly "Don Crumlin". And for Celine Dephare, as far as I know, never was she called "Chevron".Gray Catbird 21:25, June 16, 2012 (UTC)

There are many proofs that Don Crumlin is J. Curby Gremlin.

  • The only purple Gremlin that we can see in Cars 2 is J. Curby Gremlin
  • We know the appearance of each diecast
  • The colors are the same
  • There isn't still a diecast for J. Curby Gremlin (and the only boss who haven't a diecast model is Tubbs Pacer)

And then, I wanna say that in the first diecast version of Celine Dephare was wrote "Chevron - Exclusive".

Cars4ever 08:26, June 17, 2012 (UTC)

I have to admit I havn't seen any black-stripped purple Gremlin anywhere in Cars 2. I find it pretty plausible this guy was an early version of J. Curby Gremlin. Nevertheless if he was, they apparently decided to make him another charatcer, following the fact J. Curby Gremlin turned out ot be very different of him, as they renamed him Russ Gremlin and Don Crumlin. I have no idea of the probability he changes name again, but I think now it is pretty fixed. I know "Don Crumlin" is a very bizarre name that doesn't follow how other lemons are named, but there's not much to say to that. That's how Mattel calls him. We cannot assume or speculate that he is J. Curby Gremlin. Gray Catbird 11:32, June 17, 2012 (UTC)
Don Crumlin
I think the picture on the right is a picture of Don Crumlin. It was from some time near the beginning of this video. - Lukwisnie, 7:44 AM, June 17th, 2012 (UTC)
I do not think it is him ... Don Crumlin has black stripes on the sides and not yellow as on the car currently shown on the page.--Plectrophane des neiges 16:08, June 19, 2012 (UTC)
I agree. The car with the yellow stripes is definitely NOT Don Crumlin. - RaptorWiki (Ryan) 19:07, June 19, 2012 (UTC)

Can you see that the color is different? The Purple of the diecast is an intense purple. The color of the car on the oil rig is bordeaux?

Cars4ever 15:50, July 12, 2012 (UTC)

And, other proof that Don Crumlin is in reality J. Curby Gremlin: in the diecast model's box (with the name DON CRUMLIN) there's the official image of J. Curby Gremlin[1][2]

Cars4ever (talk) 16:54, July 18, 2012 (UTC)

Nope, that Don Crumlin image has been modified. Look at the Don Crumlin page for the real image of the die-cast packaging. J. Curby Gremlin has the orange/yellow colored stripe, while Don Crumlin has the black stripe. - RaptorWiki (Ryan) 17:17, July 18, 2012 (UTC)

In the video on the right, BluCollection has reviewed a DisneyStore 10-pack that includes a Gremlin that looks a lot more like the Gremlin in the other picture than the Die-Cast. He also mentions that the Gremlin might be Don Crumlin. - Lukwisnie, 8:06 AM, September 19th, 2012 (UTC)
TFAD says it's Don Crumlin... It's a bit weird because in the movie the only purple gremlin with a gun in that scene is J. Curby Gremlin... (That might be further evidence that Crumlin is actually an old J. Curby Gremlin model, renamed because the Gremlin leader changed of color in the final movie ?...) For the resemblence with the oil rig Gremlin, while the tone of purple is certainly closer, the one in the oil rigs appears ot have a yellow line, not black like on the die-cast.Gray Catbird (talk) 00:16, September 20, 2012 (UTC)
