Tyler Nguyen-Baker is a major character in Turning Red[1]. He is a former bully of Mei but becomes friends with her at the near end of the movie. He is presumably well-off financially, judging by his ability to pay $200 for Mei to appear at his birthday party. During the end of the film, he became friends with Mei and her friends after they discovered he is a 4*Townie as well.
Appearance[]
Tyler wears sporty clothes, including a basketball jersey, shorts, high tops, and a sweatband. His hair is brown and curly and he has brown eyes and tan skin. Later in the movie, he is shown wearing a friendship bracelet like the girls in his friend group, presumably made by one of the four girls. During the 4*Town concert, he wore a 4*Town gold chain, a pair of glasses with the name of Aaron Z., and a 4*Town basketball jersey with matching shorts.
Personality[]
Before, when Tyler was bullying Mei, he liked to embarrass her in any way possible, including mocking her verbally and going around school hanging posters to embarrass her as well. He is shown to have a bit of a temper, as seen when he chases Mei after she pops his basketball saying, "Oh, you're dead!" and when he yells at her at his party, insulting her mother and her family temple. Mei jumps on Tyler and attacks him, scaring him and the other kids. When Ming arrives, Tyler cries and tells Mei he's sorry and tells her to get off of him while covering his face.
At the end of the movie, Tyler is embraced into Miriam, Priya, Abby, and Mei's group once they find out he is a 4 townie just like them and his band member is Aaron Z. He, along with the group, is seen crying while hearing 4*Town sing and work together to help Mei and her family.

- Tyler's favorite member of 4*Town is Aaron Z.
- Tyler is revealed to be a 4*Townie when Mei and her friends notice him at the concert. He tries to hide himself, but Mei and her friends hug him welcoming him into the sisterhood.
- At the end of the film, he doesn't bully Mei and her friends anymore and it is shown he wears a friendship bracelet like them.
- Tyler wears an outfit similar to Aaron Z. Tyler wears a purple basketball jersey with the number 15 on it, red and white sneakers, earrings and has a band-aid on the right side of his cheek. He also wears a gray hooded jacket.
